Many businesses do not use the most appropriate desktop application because they are unaware of the alternatives. This can result in data having to be continually retyped and the necessity for laborious procedure notes to overcome application shortcomings.
Microsoft Excel is an excellent spreadsheet application but is not a good database. Using the correct platform can result in significant process performance improvement. We were able to optimize the AT&T order process by moving all data and processing into a Microsoft Access database and still generate Order reports in Microsoft Excel as specified.
